Sales record in the third year: almost 57,000 VOR KlimaTickets

Klimaticket

At the end of December 2023, around 57,000 VOR KlimaTickets were in circulation. This corresponds to an increase of 38% compared to the previous year. The cheap VOR KlimaTickets offer passengers access to increasingly improved public transport in the eastern region. The continued increase in demand for the tickets introduced in autumn 2021 underlines the successful path to the mobility transition taken by VOR: The combination of improved offerings and cheap tickets with easier access to public transport in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland continues to be well received by the people in the region. In addition to the VOR KlimaTickets, there are more than 154,000 KlimaTickets Austria and around 14,000 VOR annual route tickets in circulation in the eastern region. The 200,000 threshold of KlimaTickets sold in the VOR was exceeded as early as September 2023.

The VOR KlimaTickets - region for Lower Austria and Burgenland as well as metropolitan region for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland - were introduced shortly before the KlimaTicket Austria in October 2021. Vienna established the €365 annual card back in 2012, making it a pioneer in affordable public transport. Especially to meet the needs of many passengers from Burgenland, there is also the combination of VOR KlimaTicket Region and KlimaTicket Steiermark, which is funded with € 223. The current record number of VOR KlimaTickets sold shows a continued unbroken trend towards even more public transport in the eastern region, which is driving the mobility transition with around 60% of domestic passengers.

Public transport in the eastern region as a catalyst for the mobility transition

Around 60% of domestic public transport passengers currently travel in the VOR, and this is where significant decisions are being made towards the mobility transition. Around 30 bus and rail transport companies in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland provide a total of more than 250 million km of high-quality transport services per year on 920 routes. The ongoing success of public transport in the eastern region is not only a catalyst for the mobility transition towards lower energy consumption and CO2 emissions, but also enables people to continue to have affordable and safe mobility, especially in times of rising prices.
