Burning green and shrub cuttings outdoors

Feuer Strauch

After the first inquiries to the municipal office arrive again:

Burning outdoors is generally prohibited!

The public is often unclear about the legal situation regarding "burning in the open air".

What is allowed and what is forbidden was regulated in the Federal Clean Air Act 2011. In addition to the burning of NON-BIOGENIC material (e.g. plastic, tires, residual waste...), the burning of BIOGENIC (plant-based) material outdoors has also been completely forbidden since then.

Apart from penalties in the four-digit range, the main thing to warn about is the resulting pollution and its effects on the environment and all living beings. In the case of illegal fireplaces, the responsible district authority is obliged to extinguish the fire - any costs incurred will be borne by the person responsible.

There are only a few exceptions to this:

• Camp and barbecue fires

• Fire and civil protection drills

• Smoking fruit trees

• Pest infestation

• Burning of stubble fields (only for winter cereals and rapeseed, if necessary)

• Traditional fire

Traditional bonfires are: Easter bonfire (in the nights from Holy Saturday to Easter Monday), midsummer bonfire (between the Friday before June 21 or December 21 and the following Sunday). Please register fires that fall under these exceptions at the municipal office beforehand! Evidence of the exception must be submitted.

The municipality then reports these fires to the police and fire brigade so that no false alarms occur!

What do I do with my tree and shrub cuttings if I can't burn them?

The delivery of shrub cuttings is free of charge for private individuals in the waste material collection centres.

For leaves and green cuttings, 1 euro is charged per 100 liters.

If you have no means of transport, you have the option of registering for green waste disposal every year until March 15 or September 15 (registration deadline see collection calendar) at a price of EUR 45.00 per started quarter hour of loading time.

The collection date will then be announced in writing.

For smaller amounts, you can buy a 100 l organic sack in the waste material collection centers for 1 euro, in which you can put dry organic material ready for collection next to the organic bin.
